{"id":97653,"date":"2006-02-01T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2006-02-01T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/a63332cc-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2006-02-01T06:00:00","modified_gmt":"2006-02-01T06:00:00","slug":"a63332e0-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/a63332e0-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018It was his own effort\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thus said the mother of former Marianas Public Lands Authority employee John Hofschneider, who was earlier reported to be one of the relatives of MPLA chair Ana Demapan-Castro at the agency.<\/p>\n<p>Louise Hofschneider said John Hofschneider is not the son-in-law of Demapan-Castro as earlier reported, but added that one of the MPLA\u2019s daughters is her son\u2019s girlfriend.<\/p>\n<p>The mother said, though, that her son got a job at the MPLA because he was qualified and not because of his ties with Demapan-Castro.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were three people who interviewed him,\u201d the mother said. Louise Hofschneider said her son left the MPLA in November 2005 to pursue his studies in Seattle, Washington.<\/p>\n<p>Louise Hofschneider said she recently retired from the CNMI Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>MPLA insiders earlier lamented the hiring practices at the agency, raising allegations of nepotism that are now being investigated by the Office of the Public Auditor, among other issues.<\/p>\n<p>The MPLA chair had defended the agency, saying that she did not have any hand in her relatives\u2019 hiring. She said the MPLA has a committee tasked with the hiring of personnel, which is headed by board member Nicolas Nekai.
