A teenaged girl died while her three passengers were injured, including one who is still fighting for her life in the hospital, during a car crash along the road in Marpi on Thursday night.<\/p>\n
The fatality, a 19-year-old female, sustained massive head injuries and was pronounced dead at the Commonwealth Health Center, according to the Department of Public Safety yesterday.<\/p>\n
DPS Criminal Investigation Bureau chief Maj. Edward H. Manalili said one of the passengers, a 19-year-old local girl, is in serious condition due to internal injuries and is currently in the intensive care unit at CHC.<\/p>\n
Manalili said the two other passengers, a 16-year-old girl and a 21-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and were released from CHC after being treated.<\/p>\n
Manalili said the initial traffic investigation indicated that the driver was speeding and that alcohol was not a factor in the accident.<\/p>\n
The CIB chief said that police were notified of a car accident near the Marianas Resort in Marpi on Thursday at 10:18pm.<\/p>\n
Investigation showed that a white Mazda sedan was traveling south when it veered off the roadway. The car hit a couple of trees before it slammed into a concrete retaining wall.<\/p>\n
Police and emergency medical technicians immediately responded and transported the victims to CHC.<\/p>\n
Manalili said there was no indication that the car was engaged in drag racing.<\/p>\n
It was not indicated in the report where the group had come from and where they were heading at the time.<\/p>\n
Manalili said the weather was clear and the road surface was dry when the accident happened.<\/p>\n
DPS refused to release the identity of the fatality until her next of kin have been notified.<\/p>\n
