Benigno R. Fitial has no plans of moving into the Governor&#8217;s Official Residence on Capitol Hill.<\/p>\n<p>Fitial said Friday that he and his family will stay in their residence in Gualo Rai.<\/p>\n<p>Fitial, a former top executive in the private sector, had built a house with a million-dollar view atop Gualo Rai Hill. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No, I&#8217;m not moving in there [government building] because I have my own house,&#8221; he said, noting that he has actually not been inside the governor&#8217;s official residence.<\/p>\n<p>Fitial&#8217;s predecessor, then Gov. Juan N. Babauta, had also opted to stay in his house in Garapan during his four-year term.<\/p>\n<p>Babauta had said that choosing to live in his house was more economical for the government.<\/p>\n<p>The official residence was used only for official functions.<\/p>\n<p>Meantime, Fitial said that the maintenance of the official residence is under the responsibility of governor&#8217;s Special Administrative Assistant Evelyn Fleming.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, Fleming&#8217;s office recently used the residence as venue for hosting a dinner for the returning CNMI troops. <\/p>\n<p>Government sources said the official residence needs a major renovation work to be classified as livable.<\/p>\n<p>The place, located near the Governor&#8217;s Office on the hill, was last occupied by Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio.<\/p>\n<p>Tenorio had served three times as CNMI governor, the latest of which was in 1998 to 2002.
