Cagebelles will soon have the opportunity to showcase their skills as the Basketball Association of the Northern Mariana Islands will host a women\u2019s basketball league this month. <\/p>\n
According to BANMI vice president Elias Rangamar, the association has set the kick off date, which will be on March 23 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium. <\/p>\n
Rangamar said an important meeting will be held tomorrow at 6:30pm at the Ada Gym conference room as various issues about the league will be discussed.<\/p>\n
Rangamar, who will also coach a team in the league, said all interested teams should contact him or co-coordinator George Cruz.<\/p>\n
What makes the opportunity even better is that unlike other leagues, no entry fee will be required for all teams as Rangamar cited that the main purpose of hosting the league is to promote women\u2019s basketball in the Commonwealth.<\/p>\n
He added that about six or seven teams might suit up for action, among those being the Garapan Rollers, Toyota, and a team coached by BANMI president Mike Muna.<\/p>\n
Games will be played on the weekends.<\/p>\n
Rangamar, who also coaches the CNMI National women\u2019s team that will be competing in the upcoming 6th Micronesian Games, said the team will not compete in the league as members will be spread out as part of other teams.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe players in the national team will play together when we hold tournaments in the near future,\u201d he said. \u201cWith this league, we\u2019re basically promoting women\u2019s basketball and every one has a chance to learn the game, enhance their skills, and get some experience.\u201d <\/p>\n
