Due to insistent demand from local farmers, the Northern Mariana-College Cooperative Research, Education and Extension Services is conducting a workshop on papaya growing starting today until Thursday at the Hyatt Regency Saipan Sui Lan Room.<\/p>\n
NMC-CREES agricultural consultant Isidoro Cabrera said the free workshop has been organized to provide farmers or any interested individuals a thorough knowledge of how to increase production and profit in papaya farming. He added that the workshop would focus on types of papaya, pests, diseases, field management, nutrient management, irrigation, and field visitation.<\/p>\n
This is a first in the CNMI and everyone is invited to this free workshop. <\/p>\n
Cabrera said a University of Guam specialist Roland Quitugua has flown in from Guam today just to hold the workshop for CNMI farmers. He said NMC-CREES is expecting at least 30 farmers to participate in the three-day workshop.<\/p>\n
Wednesday session, said Cabrera, will include field trips in the afternoon to Joe Lifoifoi\u2019s farm in As Teo. The last day of the workshop will include a discussion on Nutrient Management and a field trip to Patrick Calvo\u2019s farm.<\/p>\n
NMC-CREES wants local farmers to avail of this free workshop for additional knowledge on papaya farming.<\/p>\n
