Man in ‘ice’ case gets 119 days
The Superior Court convicted yesterday a 33-year-old alien worker accused of trafficking methamphetamine or “ice” on Saipan.
Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona sentenced Xing Lin, alias Mike, to three years in prison, all suspended except for 119 days, for illegal possession of a controlled substance particularly “ice.”
Following a plea agreement, Manglona gave Lin credit for the 119 days he had already served in jail.
Manglona said the defendant would be placed on five years probation. She also required him to pay a $1,000 fine, $100 in court costs, and $100 in probation fees.
The judge also ordered the defendant to perform 180 hours of community work service.
“Drugs are something that are not loved in the CNMI especially ‘ice’”, said Manglona as she also reminded Lin to obey all federal and local laws during his probationary period.
Lin, alias Mike, was charged with trafficking of a controlled substance. He and counsel assistant public defender Adam Hardwicke signed a plea agreement with the government represented by legal intern John R. Aguon.
Lin pleaded guilty to illegal possession of a controlled substance. The trafficking of controlled substance charge was dismissed.
The agreement stated that on Dec. 29, 2005, the defendant unlawfully possessed methamphetamine.
Police stated in court papers that detectives from the Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigation Bureau and agents from the Customs Investigation Unit arrested Lin at his house in San Antonio for selling $700 worth of “ice” to their confidential source.
