The Department of Public Health said that effective May 1, 2006 the department will implement the updated physician fee schedule, evaluation and management services at the Commonwealth Health Center.

The updated physician service fee schedule includes outpatient physician services; inpatient physician services; physician consultation services; emergency department physician services; physician critical care services; and preventive medicine services.

The updated fee schedule was published in the Commonwealth Register, volume 27, number 10 on Nov. 25, 2005, for public comments and recommendations and was subsequently adopted in its entirety on Dec. 30, 2005, Commonwealth Register, volume 27, number 11.

Although there have been minor revisions made, DPH said the last revision made to the CHC Physician Fee Schedule was in 1995 or approximately 11 years ago.

“The implementation of the updated fee schedule is necessary to accurately reflect the actual cost of providing health services in addition to accurately describing the types of services that are now being provided that were not in the 1995 Physician Fee Schedule,” the department said in a statement.

The adjustments, it said, do not go significantly beyond the recommended reimbursement rates by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. (PR)
