Commonwealth Health Center nurse Ernie Molina has been selected as the recipient of the first Filipino Writers Circle’s Gawad Kalinga Awards.

Filipino Writers Circle president Lindablue Romero said Molina joins an “elite group of extraordinary healthcare professionals” throughout the State of California and the CNMI. She said Molina is an exceptional individual whose story and life experiences have served as an inspiration to Filipino immigrants.

Molina, known for directing and choreographing local pageants in the Commonwealth, was recognized for his values and hard work, talent, and inspiring achievements.

Romero said the Filipino Writers Circle hopes to inspire Filipino immigrants in North America by highlighting the achievements of Gawad Kalinga recipients who have remained steadfast in the realization of their dreams despite the challenges of making it in a foreign land and in a new home.

“Your story of challenges and success is truly a standout and we are very honored to confer upon you the Circle Award. You are Gawad Kalinga personified,” said Romero.

The Filipino Writers Circle will hold an awards night for all recipients on Sunday, Nov. 12, at the Golden Gate Ballroom of the Clarion Hotel in San Francisco.

DPH’s message

Molina received a congratulatory letter from Public Health Secretary Joseph Kevin P. Villagomez, who said Molina has been an outstanding DPH employee for over 10 years now. “We are very proud of this award that has been bestowed on you,” he added.

Villagomez said Molina’s award emphasizes the high-level of healthcare delivery that Molina has been providing the people of the Commonwealth.

In 2002, Molina was also recognized as the Most Outstanding Filipino Migrant Worker in the CNMI. In the last six years he has been active in providing his medical skills to the Philippine Consulate General’s regular health screenings for overseas Filipino workers in the Commonwealth.
