TAMUNING, Guam—The Make-A-Wish Foundation, in cooperation with the Hilton Guam Resort and Spa, has granted the wish of 11-year-old Cassandra Castro from Tanapag, Saipan, to go shopping at Kmart in Guam.

Cassandra, who suffers from rheumatic heart disease, went to Guam on Tuesday, Nov. 21, accompanied by her elder sister, Elfreda. This was Cassandra’s first trip off island, away from mom and family.

During her visit, Cassandra was welcomed by the Office of the Governor Protocol. On Tuesday evening, she was hosted by the Baldyga Group to the dinner show at the Sandcastle. Her transportation was provided by Hertz Rental. She also received a special gift bag of books by her favorite author Barbara Park from Bestseller Books at the Guam Premium Outlets.

Cassandra and her sister stayed at the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa. She did her shopping yesterday, Nov. 22, after which she was taken to the Hilton where they had the train lighting ceremony at 6pm.

Each year the Hilton donates a portion of the sponsorship raised for the Christmas Train to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This year Cassandra, as well as the other Wish Kids that have already been granted their wishes, were highlighted at the train lighting ceremony.

Cassandra is a shy, intelligent and pretty girl. Among her favorites are: baby blue, her hip hop music, the TV show Nickelodeon, pizza, the movie Bring It On, and books by Barbara Park, the Junie B Series.

Cassandra had sent a beautifully personal handwritten letter to the Foundation asking for her wish to be granted.

Of special note, the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa has chosen a snowflake theme for the holidays. This year a special snowflake will feature each of the Foundation’s pending Wish Kids (13) with their names and wishes printed on the snowflake and lining the long hallway from the lobby to the function rooms. The Hilton also sponsored Cassandra’s wish.

Cassandra returns to Saipan today, Nov. 23.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. For more information, call 649-9474 or 727-1879 or you can visit their website at www.guamwish.org. (PR)
