Waldo resigns PSS finance post
Public School System director of finance Richard Waldo has tendered his resignation after eight years of serving the CNMI.
Waldo confirmed his resignation to Saipan Tribune yesterday, saying it would take effect on Dec. 29.
Waldo submitted his resignation letter to the PSS Human Resource Office on Wednesday.
He said, though, that he is not completely leaving PSS as he would be transferring to a teacher position. Waldo has passed both Praxis 1 and 2.
“We have a shortage of teachers and I am highly qualified,” he said.
Waldo, who is also a certified public accountant, completed his Praxis certification last year and has been holding review classes. He is also going to teach finance courses at the Northern Marianas College under the University of Argosy program. He will start teaching at NMC next semester.
“I have two babies. It makes more sense to spend more time with my two babies,” he said. The children are 2 and 5 years old. Waldo said his main reasons for resigning included his children and economics.
Waldo said being in a higher position at PSS would always mean lesser Social Security benefits. He said at 62, he should be getting more if he had been at a lower post. He also said that the local law would change the accrued leave benefits. “Thus, I have to do it now,” he added.
Waldo graduated with a degree in BA Political Science in 1968. He attended a Graduate Business Program at the University of California in Los Angeles. He obtained his Masters in Business Administration in 1970.
He became a Certified Public Accountant in 1974, maintaining his certification up to 2007. Waldo also has been conducting this type of training since 1979 in cities like Boston, New York, and Philadelphia. He also has been holding Praxis review courses in the CNMI and has taught mathematics and reading courses for the past 26 years.
Argosy’s Fall Session II courses began last Oct. 27 in the CNMI.
