Guam to be featured in the award-winning Passport to Adventure

TUMON, Guam—Passport to Adventure, an award winning documentary series that airs in the United States on PBS, wrapped up filming for an upcoming episode featuring Guam. The Guam episode will be part of Passport to Adventure’s third season and is scheduled to air in 2007.

The four-member film crew, which includes co-hosts and co-producers Julie Conover and Mark Jennings, arrived in Guam Nov. 15, 2006 and began filming almost immediately. The Guam Visitors Bureau, which is sponsoring the episode, has been working with the Passport to Adventure team for several months to ensure the documentary features the very best of Guam’s culture, history, attractions, and scenic sites.

“We’re very excited that a program of Passport to Adventure’s caliber expressed an interest in promoting the beauty and unique nature of Guam,” said general manager Gerald S.A. Perez. “We arranged a diverse itinerary for them. They went swimming, snorkeling, hiking, sampled our wonderful Chamorro food, and a lot more. Our goal was to showcase many of Guam’s cultural, historic, and natural attractions, as well as the friendliness that has defined our Chamorro hospitality.”

The crew of Passport to Adventure had a great time exploring Guam and filmed many hours of spectacular footage. “We have enough film to easily make an hour long program,” said Mark Jennings, “It’s just been an incredible trip. The beauty of the island, the friendliness of the people, it’s been all we hoped for and much more.”

Passport to Adventure is a half-hour travel documentary program that prides itself on discovering the true identity of a destination and sharing it with the world. Previous destinations featured on the series include Norway, Austria, Wales, Thailand, China, India, Spain, and many other exotic locations. Guam will now join the ranks of featured destinations and be further promoted on the series’ website, www.passporttoadventure.com.

Passport to Adventure has an exposure via the PBS network to over 93 million homes in the United States and also distributes its programs to airlines, cruise ships, and internationally. In addition, Passport to Adventure will work with the Guam Visitors Bureau to create translated copies of the High Definition episode for potential use in other international markets to promote Guam.

Many of Guam’s local businesses have shown their support for the Passport to Adventure episode, including Ohana Bayview Hotel and Northwest Airlines, along with Gef Pa’go Chamorro Cultural Village, Jeff’s Pirates Cove, Talofofo Falls Resort Park, Stanlees’ Café, Iruka Watching Adventure, Underwater World, the National Park Service, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, the Antonio Sablan family, and local guides who assisted the Passport to Adventure crew on their journey of discovery in Guam: Toni Ramirez, Shirley Sablan, Cindy Hanson, and Felix Reyes.
