Castro, Camacho hailed as MHS Role Models

Marianas High School seniors Jose Castro and Jasheleen Camacho were recently crowned as MHS’ Mr. and Ms. Role Model of the Year.
Castro and Camacho bested seven other male and female candidates during the grand pageant night held Saturday evening at the Pedro L. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe.
First place went to seniors Bernard Rivera and Karen Hartman while the second place went to Gabriel Berger and Myrene Evangelista. Third place winners were Marco Castro and Keisha Paez.
Several special awards were also given away during the event. The award for Mr. and Ms. Photogenic went to Jose Castro and Naomi Sablan. The Mr. and Ms. Congeniality plum went to Marco Castro and Myrene Evangelista.
Mr. and Ms. Prompt were awarded to Jasheleen Camacho and Gabriel Berger. Best in Catwalk went to Marvin Lobrio and Emelaine Fejeran. Best in Sportswear was given to Jasheleen Camacho and Bernard Rivera.
Camacho and Castro also bagged the Best in Evening Wear special award. The Talent Awards went to Karen Hartman, Keisha Paez and Marco Castro.
MHS guidance counselor Chris Cabrera, who was the event’s emcee, said this a first for the largest high school in the CNMI to hold a beauty pageant.
For Paez and Hartman, joining the pageant was a whole new experience for them. Both seniors told [I]Saipan Tribune[/I] that it was a tremendous experience to wear fashionable clothes and wear make up all night long. “Very new. I’ve never worn make up before,” Paez said, laughing.
Camacho said she joined the pageant due to her interests in such “fun activities.” “To meet new people and to help out my school community. I believe that this pageant will also help me with my future goals,” she added.
Other candidates were Nicole Castro, Demalynn Sablan, Mark Diestro, Yu Pai Babauta, and Herman Manglona.
Pageant sponsors were Saipan World Resort, Saipan Grand Hotel, Genoveva’s, PTI, Coca Cola, Triple J, Island Florals and Gifts, Younis Arts Studio, Yco, Papaya, Shirley’s Coffee Shop, and Tapo Shopping. Individual sponsors were Mr. and Ms. Ermitanio and Andresina Benavente.
