Nov. car sales down 34 percent

The sales of brand new cars in the CNMI dropped by 34 percent in November, based on the latest data provided by the Commonwealth Auto Dealer’s Association.

The group also said that the number of new vehicles sold so far this year totaled 942, a 33.6-percent decline compared to the previous year’s 1,420.

On a month-to-month basis, CADA reported a 34.5-percent decline in sales last month.

From 81 vehicles sold in November 2005, the number went down to 53 last month.

Among the three car dealers, Microl Corp. topped sales in November with 21 units sold, followed by Triple J Motors with 17, and Joeten with 15.

Joeten sustained a 50-percent decline in sales last month while Microl and Triple J posted a 32-percent and 34-percent drop, respectively.

For overall sales this year, Microl registered a total of 395 units sold, Joeten with 302 units, and Triple J with 245.

In terms of car models, Toyota Yaris, Toyota Corolla, and Honda Civic topped the sales last month, with five units sold each for Yaris and Corolla, and four for Civic.

For trucks, Toyota Tacoma topped sales with three units sold, followed by Ford Ranger and Nissan Frontier, with two each.

Mazda 5 was the favored van with two units sold while for SUVs, Suzuki Grand Vittara topped the list with four units sold, followed by Hyundai Tucson and Toyota Rav4, with three each.

Microl Corp. sells Toyota and Chevrolet, while Joeten Motors sells Nissan, Ford, Honda, and Kia. Triple J Motors sells Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Suzuki, Subaru, and Mazda.
