The Department of Community and Cultural Affairs extended its winning streak to five games Monday night when they shutout the CPA Ports Police, 10-0, under the lights at Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Softball Field in continuation of the Inter-Government Men’s Slow-Pitch Softball League.

Pitcher Mel Sakisat went the distance once again and limited the boys in blue to just three hits through five innings and aided his cause at the plate with a sterling 3-for-3 outing that generated a pair of singles, a three-run home run, and five runs batted in.

Sakisat brought home the bacon and fried it in the pan but wasn’t the only one working his mojo in the batter’s box as shortstopper Ben Tagabuel went 3-for-3 with two singles and a two-bagger, while third baseman Pete Tomokane’s lone hit came off of a solo home run in the top of a five-run second inning.

The defending champions remain the only undefeated team in the men’s league and captain John Reyes and the boys are firing on all cylinders early in the season.

No Zone 12, CHC 2

Despite all of the billboards, bumper stickers, and commercials, the Commonwealth Health Center got caught in the No Zone as the second place club racked up another 10-run mercy rule victory at Tan Ge by slaying the surgeons, 12-2.

Third baseman Manny Sablan continued to pad his stats with a solid 2-for-3 performance at the plate that drove in three runs off of an RBI single and two-run homer while outfielder Mike Landon went 2-for-2 with a base hit and RBI double in an abbreviated appearance at the ballpark.

Jerry Ayuyu was just a single shy of hitting for the cycle and drove in three runs off of a double, triple, and solo home run.

DEQ 29, DPW 20

The Department of Public Works blew a seven-run lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Department of Environmental Quality turned the tables with a 16-runs rally to earn its second win of the season.

Ahead of their competitors 20-13 though five and a half innings, everything was going well for DPW until the bottom of the sixth started when Elmer Sablan reached base on an error.

Things went downhill from there as DPW allowed 11 runs before recording the first out en route to allowing 16 runs off of 14 hits in the innings.

Sablan finished the game 4-for-5 with five runs batted in off of a pair of singles and doubles while fellow infielder Melvin Castro went 4-for-5 with three base hits, a double, and two ribbies.
