Hunter creeps up on Blanco

The National Football League playoff hunt is off and running as everyone but the Chicago Bears seek a slot in the pulse-pounding post-season action. Despite Rex Grossman recording a horrible 1.3 quarterback rating last week, Da Bears locked up their divisional crown by beating the Minnesota Vikings, 23-13.

While No. 8 may not be looking great, his team continues to win. There’s a different story from one of the best QBs in the game. After looking unbeatable through their first nine games of the season, the Indianapolis Colts are playing anything but super. Peyton Manning and the blue shoes were the favorites to represent the American Football Conference in the Super Bowl this year but they are going to have to rebound soon if they plan to play in February.

Right now the San Diego Chargers have the inside track on the Southern Florida spectacular as LaDainian Tomlinson and the lightning bolts are playing some quality ball and racking up a slew of stats.

LT and company have been looking good for the past couple of years but I never understand why they always seem to fall through the cracks late in the season. Perhaps it won’t happen this year under Phil Rivers’ watch under center, but San Diego had a quality signal caller last year by the name of Drew Brees who did mighty well.

The kid from Purdue is still on fire but this time around he is leading the New Orleans Saints on a post-season run for their money. That couldn’t have come at a better time for the fighting fleur-de-lis community as they have come together this season for the first time since being rocked by Hurricane Katrina.

The team has had the full backing of its fans this year, which is more than the Atlanta Falcons can say. Michael Vick just shelled out more than most people on Saipan get paid in a year for showing his fan not-so faithful a different kind of Dirty Bird, but the quarterback delivered an apology to the home crowd to take the sting off of their sorry season.

It’s tough when your coach’s dad reaches out from retirement to call you a “Coach Killer” but I can’t imagine being Jim Mora Jr. and explaining to Vick “Hey, don’t listen to my pops. I never did and look where I am today.”

That’s something I don’t have to do as a sportswriter, but I do have to follow the games and get a feel for the way things are on the mainland sports scene. From what I see in my home town there is not a whole lot to love at the quarterback position.

I’m getting tired of hearing analysts speak highly of J.P. Losman because I think it’s a conspiracy started by the NFL to pump up teams with crappy players by giving them a false sense of hope during the season.

You can’t possibly sell me on the idea that the Buffalo Bills will be able to make the playoffs this year under this kid. It’s like when the Seattle Seahawks hung on to Rick Mirer because they thought he would take them to the Super Bowl someday.

Trust me, Losman is no future star, but if he can do it maybe I should suit up and try out for the Oakland Raiders. Man, if any team blows more than the Bills it’s the Faders.
