4 Cabinet officials on travel
Four Cabinet members are currently off-island or scheduled to leave the Commonwealth for official or personal reasons.
Public Health Secretary Joseph Kevin Villagomez left Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006 to attend a conference on pandemic flu preparedness for the Pacific region. He will be out of the Commonwealth until today.
Press secretary Charles P. Reyes Jr. said that Villagomez’s trip is federally funded.
Lynette F. Tenorio, deputy secretary for the Department of Public Health, has been designated acting secretary during Villagomez’s absence.
Lands and Natural Resources Secretary Ignacio T. Dela Cruz is reported to have left on an official trip to meet with federal officials regarding fish and wildlife issues. He has been off island since Monday, Dec. 11, and is expected to remain so until tomorrow, Dec. 15.
Sylvan O. Igisomar, director of the Division of Fish and Wildlife, is acting DLNR secretary.
Antonio S. Muna, special assistant for management and budget, and Commerce Secretary James A. Santos are going on personal leave.
Muna, who leaves today, will be out of the Commonwealth until Jan. 11, 2007. Budget analyst Benita F. Sablan will temporarily hold Muna’s post.
For his part, Santos will be off island from Dec. 18, 2006 to Jan. 7, 2007. John S. Blanco, director for economic development, has been designated as acting secretary of the Department of Commerce.
Press secretary Reyes maintained that the administration remains strict on official travel. “The vast majority of trips that we allow are paid for by the federal government or the travelers,” he said.
