Laolao Club Championship hits this weekend
The best of the best are expected to put their skills to the test this weekend as the Laolao Bay Golf Resort hosts the 2006 Club Championship.
What will certainly serve as a big attraction for golfers is that the tournament features a $2,500 cash prize, plus a year of free golf at the establishment, as well as $500 worth of Laolao Bay Golf Resort apparel for whoever reigns supreme.
In an interview, Laolao Bay Golf Resort director of research and business development Jerry P. Tiu disclosed that the establishment is searching for a Club Champion for 2007, and that the tournament serves as the perfect venue to determine who will hold the title.
“The Club Championship will feature the best of the best, and even golfers from Guam will be here to compete,” Tiu said. “Aside from the cash and a year’s worth of bragging rights, the golfer will also get Laolao logo apparel. We are doing this tournament because we are looking for the 2007 Club Champion, and name a champion for Laolao Bay.”
While the winner will reign as the undisputed champion of the resort, the golfer will also represent the establishment.
“On certain competitions, the club champion will play under the Laolao banner,” Tiu said.
With all that is at stake, Tiu explained that golfers are really looking forward to the tournament.
“The golfers are very excited,” he said. “This is one tournament that they would not want to miss.”
Tiu added that while he expects about 40 golfers for the competition, organizers are not imposing limitations on how many players can compete.
Meanwhile, the golfer that submits the second best score for the tournament will win $1,000 plus three months of free golf at the establishment, while the third place finisher will receive $500 and a month of free golf.
The entrance fee for the tournament is $175, and all interested golfers are urged to register by 5pm Friday evening at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort front desk.
The tournament will be held on Saturday and Sunday, with show time set for 6am and tee time at 7am. One round will be played on the Laolao west course, while the other will be played on the east course, with USGA rules to be enforced throughout.
