Broken promises

It is sad to write this down but I guess I have no choice but to express my concern over some issues on our Rota leaders. Last year, prior to the midterm election, during their so-called wonderful speeches, promises came up, as they were heard saying I promise you this, that and many more. The thing that bothered me most was when they promised that if they get elected, “Bai en tupa I lamasa” (we’re going to turn the tables upside down) at the Legislature. The only turned table I see is our tables down here on Rota and the ones doing the flipping is, guess who, our very own Rota delegates.

What happened to that promise? Let me guess. Maybe they are waiting until next year because general election is just around the corner and that’s another promise they’ll be adding to their platform. Promise you this, that and same old promises. Some of them will be seeking re-election or will probably run for Mayor.

This is a promise though: The people of Rota will not tolerate it any longer. Especially not in these very difficult and unstable economic times. The people of Rota are too busy trying to make ends meet, barely surviving on salaries that are just too low and fuel prices that are way too high; not to mention food and other items priced so high that when you go to any of the stores you have to think twice which is most essential for your home.

I truly understand that it is not entirely their fault that we are in this predicament; however, it is their duty and responsibility to protect and find doable solutions to assist their people. Isn’t it a wonder why a lot of our people are leaving the island because our “highly respected” leaders are not doing what they are sworn in to do. These are drastic times and they call for drastic measures. Help us! The people are crying out for your attention and action.
