Falcons ground Jets in Big League
Tako Camacho and Nunu Kapileo pitched and batted their way into the game to help the Sablan Topline Tanapag Falcons trounce JET Realty Jets in yesterday’s Big League game in the Saipan Major League at the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.
Camacho pitched seven no-relief innings and despite giving up 14 hits was backed up by the Falcons defense. He allowed the Jets to 0-for-7 in batting when two or three runners are in scoring position.
Camacho even held the Jets to 8-for-29 in batting for a .275 average. He was also tagged with two earned runs but had six strikeouts in the game and walked one batter.
Kapileo, who was part of the CNMI All-Star team that saw action in the Big League World Series in Easley, South Carolina, last year, went 3-for-4 scoring twice and had a two-RBI double in the fourth inning.
The Falcons also used a five-run second inning in securing their fifth win against six losses.
In other Big League games the past week, the Aztecs slaughtered the Dolphins, 16-4 on April 19, while the Hustlers edged the Falcons, 5-4, on April 15.
Two days before that the Hustlers suffered a 4-3 loss to the Falcons on April 13, while the Falcons scored consecutive close wins over the Hustlers, 4-3, and Aztecs 6-5, on April 12 and 6.
The Dolphins split their games against the Falcons. The Dolphins beat the Falcons, 7-3, on April 5 to avenge a 13-6 loss to the same team on April 3.
JUNIOR LEAGUE
Ol’Aces 6, Lion Hearts 5
The UMDA Ol’Aces squeezed out a 6-5 win over the Kagman Lion Hearts of Reps. Ed Salas and Rosmond Santos.
Kevin Yamada pitched 4.1 innings in relief giving up two runs on five hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
Lamarc Iguel started for Ol’Aces lasting 2.2 innings. He was tagged with three runs on four hits with three strikeouts and no walk.
Jets 9, Lion Hearts 4
Anthony Salas went 3-for-4 with one run to help the Juan S. Tenorio and Pacific Amusement-backed Jets tamed the Lion Hearts, 9-4, last April 12.
Salas had an RBI double in the Jets’ three-run third inning, while Keoni Lizama went 3-for-4 with one run and an RBI.
Harry Nakamura held the Lion Hearts to 6-for-25 in batting in seven innings of work. He gave up two earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
Fielders 16, Ol’Aces 10
Peter Tenorio belted a fourth inning home run to help the Fielders score a 16-10 win over Ol’Aces.
Tenorio went 2-for-4 with two runs, four RBIs and that two-run shot in the Fielders’ eight-run fourth inning.
Eloy Cruz also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs.
SENIOR LEAGUE
Dolphins 14, Lion Hearts 1
Anthony Rogolifoi Jr. pitched a near shutout game in the PTI Dolphins’ 14-1 triumph over the Lion Hearts.
Rogolifoi gave up four hits with five strikeouts and two walks in the game shortened by the 10-run mercy rule.
Jonathan Celis went 4-for-4 with two runs and a two-RBI double in the first inning.
In other games, the Fielders pulled off an 8-4 win over the Jets on April 19, while the Lion King scored a 15-0 shutout win against the D9ers on April 17. The D9ers defeated the Lion Hearts, 16-13, on April 12, while on April 10 the Fielders tripped the Doplhins, 12-8.
The Jets cruised past the Lion Hearts on April 8, 18-5, while the Fielders trounced the Kagman crew on April 6, 16-9. The Jets edged the Lion Hearts on April 5, 15-12.
