Saipan Sweet Feet members are seeking the support of the community as they prepare to take part in a three-day walk that supports the cause to find a cure against breast cancer.

This coming September 12-14, Saipan Sweet Feet member Marian Aldan-Pierce, along with members of the group comprised of cancer survivors, will meet up with thousands of men and women in Seattle, Washington to walk 60 miles in the course of three days.

The Breast Cancer 3-Day is an event to help benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Eighty five percent of the net proceeds of this event will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

According to the Breast Cancer 3-Day website, “every advancement in breast cancer research, treatment, education and prevention in the last 25 years has been touched by a Komen for the Cure grant.”

The remaining 15 percent of the net funds will go to the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund, which aims to provide ongoing support to breast cancer initiatives.

Aldan-Pierce said the Saipan Sweet Feet is composed of cancer survivors who have inspired others “to get involved and participate in this incredible journey.”

Aldan-Pierce said she is seeking the help of the community to donate to the worthy cause.

“I’ve agreed to raise at least $2,200 in donations; however, I’ve set my personal goal at $5,000. So I need your help,” Aldan-Pierce said. “Any amount will help.”

Aldan-Pierce said that over the years she has watched family members, employees, and friends succumb to cancer, that is why she is getting involved in this bold adventure.

“Thankfully, many of them have survived—including some of my closest friends. Walking 60 miles and raising $5,000, or more I hope, is the least I can do,” Aldan-Pierce said.

“Every dollar raised brings us closer to the cure. We all dream of the day when this disease is just a chapter in medical journals,” she adds.

Breast cancer has already claimed the lives of at least eight women in the CNMI since 2001.

According to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, approximately 200,000 American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and 40,00 will die from the disease.

Aldan-Pierce said this that is the reason why she is willing to walk so far. “To do something bold about breast cancer. I hope that you’ll share this incredible adventure with me—by supporting me in my fundraising efforts.”

Donations can be made online at http://www.The3Day.org or over the phone at 1-800-996-3DAY(3329).
