The Marianas Visitors Authority kicked off its 10th Annual Taste of the Marianas International Food Festival and Beer Garden at the American Memorial Park Saturday evening.

The event, which drew scores of people throughout the community, featured local and international cuisines sold by participating hotel and local restaurant outlets.

Some of Saturday’s vendors included the Aqua Resort Club Saipan, Fiesta Resort & Spa, Hafa Adai Beach Hotel, Hyatt Regency Saipan, Pacific Islands Club, Palms Resort Saipan, Saipan World Resort, Mariana Resort & Spa, Capricciosa & Tony Roma’s, D’Elegance Café, Herman’s Modern Bakery, Hula Girl, Thai House Restaurant, Poon’s Restaurant, Ty & Tia, Pacific Trading Company, Marpac, and the Northern Marianas Bartenders Association.

Visitors to the festival also enjoyed talent performances by Tenina Olevasa, Inatuas Cultural Dancers, A-Track, and Telvi Maori.

According to MVA managing director Perry Tenorio, the Taste of the Marianas has become an annual outlet event that both locals and visitors have come to enjoy.

“At MVA we embrace the opportunity to have our visitors to the island experience our local culture in an environment that has become a mainstay for the island of Saipan,” Tenorio said.

The Taste of the Marianas International Food Festival and Beer Garden in its 10th year, is an annual event which began in 1999 as part of the Visit the Marianas Campaign. This year’s Taste of the Marianas will be held every Saturday from 6pm to 10pm, during the month of May which began on May 3, 2008, until May 31, 2008, at the American Memorial Park.

The Taste of the Marianas International Food Festival and Beer Garden is an event that both visitors to the island and local residents often look forward to.

May is Tourism Month packed with activities help underscore the importance of tourism industry.

Lt. Gov. Tim P. Villagomez signed the proclamation last week designating May as Tourism Month. He also urged residents and visitors alike to observe Tourism Month by participating in ceremonies and activities and celebrating the month’s theme “Tourism is everybody’s business.”
