NMC completes EEO and sexual harassment awareness training
As part of the Northern Marianas College’s continuous efforts to enhance its employees’ professional development and awareness of workplace rights, the faculty and staff recently completed a comprehensive Equal Employment Opportunity and Sexual Harassment Prevention Training.
The issues discussed at the training workshop included fundamentals of EEO and an overview of sexual harassment. Topics included identifying unlawful discriminations, illustrating recent court cases, following company policies and procedures before filing a complaint, discussing important updates from the EEO Commission, and encountering sexual harassment issues with problem-solving scenarios.
“The Northern Marianas College has always been committed to providing a healthy and productive workplace environment,” said NMC president Dr. Carmen Fernandez. “Proactively ensuring that our employees are well informed of their rights and obligations are part of that commitment.”
Frank Gibson of HR Support CNMI, who has had over 10 years’ experience with EEO, facilitated the workshop. Gibson is also certified by the Society of Human Resources Management as a Senior Personnel Human Resources and Global Personnel Human Resources provider.
The workshop, which ran from March 18 to May 9, was scheduled for different times in order to maximize attendance of all the employees. Tinian employees participated in the training through video conferencing; the same training will be conducted on Rota next month. Each employee that attended the workshop received a certificate of completion. (NMC)
