Max is top dog in PAWS’ annual dog show
The island’s 2nd annual dog show competition, dubbed the “Best of the Worst Dog Show,” was held last Saturday at the CPA Airport Field, with the Best In Show award going to a 6-year-old boonie dog called Max from New Mexico.
“This is the first time that I entered Max in a contest and I’m so proud of him for winning the Best in Show,” said Max’s owner, Divya Sharma. “We have never joined any competitions before and this is the first time that Max has ever won a competition.”
The 37 canine contestants vied for awards in seven categories: The Fattest, Best Geriatric, Best Belly Crawler, Most Disobedient, Booniest, Most Likely To Be A Movie Star, and Best in Show.
Coco, who is 9 and a half years old, swept the award for the fattest category, which he also won last year. “We found him on the streets when we first came here,” said Coco’s owner, Marcia Schultz.
It took the Pet Assistance and Welfare Services and Beautify CNMI! two months to prepare for the event.
“This year we had a phenomenal amount of community support,” said PAWS president Katie Busenkell. “I saw people enjoy and have a great time with their pets. I am very happy with the outcome of the show.”
Some of the sponsors for the event are Costco, Pacific Trading Company, Beautify CNMI, Pacific Telecommunications Inc., and private donors.
