A local Budweiser distributor is gearing up to give away a custom-built chopper motorcycle next month with a roaring engine that is sure to turn heads on Saipan.

The giveaway, slated for July 5 at the Hard Rock Café, is part of a promotion for MARPAC, or Marianas Pacific Distribution Inc.

Marketing manager JoJo Camacho unveiled the chopper inside the company’s Saipan warehouse Wednesday and fired up its deafening 107 cubic inch, 1,750 cc engine.

The chopper is a “very smooth” ride with “solid power,” according to John Shimicu, who works with the company’s branch on Guam and took the bike for a cruise down Beach Road and Middle Road earlier in the day.

To win the motorcycle, a Callahan Custom Chopper valued at about $30,000 and fitted with special LED lights, contestants merely have to purchase 12 packs of Budweiser, Bud Light or Bud Ice and find the scratch card inside it. In addition to the grand prize, the cards give customers the chance to win hats, chamois and a variety of other items.

The promotion comes as MARPAC, like countless other businesses on Saipan, is dealing with obstacles like rising utility costs, high fuel prices and increasing deliver costs.

“The climate, it’s challenging for everyone, but we have some very loyal customers and this is our way of giving back,” said marketing manager Joseph “JoJo” Camacho.

Yet the company plans to persevere.“Like every other company out there, we’re faced with challenges but we’re doing promotions like this and we’re in it for the long haul,” said manager Joey Garrido.
