Bank of Guam overcomes Tinian
Bank of Guam continued its hot streak by beating Tinian in the resumption of the 2008 PTI Inter-Government Business Basketball League Monday night at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
The Bankers notched win No. 4 as against one loss despite going down early against the cagers from the CNMI’s gaming capital.
With Anthony Borja going off early and often, Tinian took a 17-12 lead in the opening 10 minutes of the ballgame.
John Santos and Peter Manglona made sure Tinian continued to have the driver’s seat, combining for 21 points in the second to give their team a 43-38 spread at halftime.
BoG, however, had had enough of Tinian seeing them from their rearview mirror.
And with center Charlie Peters and forwards Randy Pelisaman and Jason Taisacan firing at least six points apiece in the third frame, the Bankers took control of the game and entered the fourth and final quarter ahead, 68-64.
From there, it was just a matter of fending off a number of comeback attempts by Tinian.
Taisacan and Peters made sure no such rally would succeed as the two combined for 17 of the team’s 27 points in the payoff period to tow BoG to the eight-point victory.
Peters led five Bankers in double figures with 21 points, while Pelisamen and Taisacan added 17 and 14, respectively.
Tinian, which dropped to 2-3 in the win-loss standings, was paced by the game-high 29 markers of Santos. Borja and Manglona chipped in 24 and 17 points in the loss.
