PIC hosts Red Cross water safety training

A weeklong water safety instructors class taught by a visiting instructor from California has resulted in 12 new Red Cross-certified water safety instructors in the Commonwealth.

The class was held at the Pacific Islands Club under the auspices of the NMI Chapter of the American Red Cross.

The training involved almost 40 hours of instruction with water and classroom work as well as teaching simulations. The participants learned advanced water safety training as well as how to teach the Red Cross “Learn to Swim” skill levels.

“Having all these new Red Cross-trained swimming instructors will really improve the level of instruction currently available on island,” said Mary Ann Taman, Health and Safety Administrator.

“The Pacific Islands Club is a great community partner by donating access to their pool and classroom facilities,” said John Hirsh, executive director of the NMI Red Cross Chapter.

Hirsh also cited Cole Pritchard, Glenn Policare and the staff and management of PIC for their generosity. [B][I](PR)[/I][/B]
