A counselor from the Guam Veterans Center office will be on island for three days later this month to counsel soldiers and family members.

Ruth Coleman, executive director for the Office of Military and Veterans Affairs, said it’s important family members have an outlet to discuss and share what they are going through.

“One parent is left to hold a candle burning to take care of the family. It can be stressful,” she said

Children of soldiers are also invited to speak with the counselor.

“There are a lot of issues, too, for children,” she said.

Although no concrete dates have been set for the counselor’s arrival, it will be in mid-August, Coleman said. Those interested will be able to make an appointment or walk in. One day will be dedicated to a mass briefing.

Counselors from Guam have been coming to the island every month since April, she said.
