Thousands of youth from around the world attended the five-day World Youth Day in Sydney, Australia, in July and among the pilgrims was a strong delegation from the CNMI, comprising some 42 students and chaperones.

Accompanied by Youth Ministry Director Fr. Florentino “Nonoy” Recaido Jr., Marie T. Muna, assistant coordinator for the WYD 08, Fr. Rey D. Rosal of San Vicente Church, Fr. Man Soo Kye of the Korean Catholic Church of Saipan, and Fr. Delfin Tumaca of San Francisco de Borja on Rota, the delegation participated in prayers, Bible reading, confessions, Stations of the Cross, Eucharistic celebrations, and a host of other programs.

Local families provided the youths with shelter. The CNMI delegation attended the Our Lady Mount Carmel Bonny Rigg and Mount Pritchrid churches.

The delegation has been preparing for the event since the beginning of 2007. They have been doing fundraisers and receiving support from sponsors.
