The Inaugural Classified Masters Bowling Tournament is set for this coming Sunday, Aug. 10, at the Saipan Bowling Center in San Jose.

According to tourney coordinator Ador Dimaano, the competition will have three divisions—Class A for bowlers who roll 170 and over, Class B for 155-169, and Class C for 154 and below.

He added that registration will be on a first-come, first-serve basis and only bowlers with at least 49 games in the last two seasons of the San Jose venue and Capital Bowling Center leagues will be given classifications.

Bowlers with less than 36 games in Saipan’s two bowling alleys can play but will have to suit up for the Class A category.

Bonus pins, according to Dimaano, will be 90 for Class C (10 pins a game in the stepladder), 45 pins in Class B (five pins a game in the stepladder), while Class A participants will not be given bonus pins.

The tournament will start with a nine-game roll-off with the Top 5 for each of the three divisions advancing to the stepladder finals. The first game in the playoffs will have fifth place against fourth, followed by the second round where the winner of the first game goes up against the third placer.

The semifinals will then feature the No. 2 seed against the winner of the second round and the winner of that match-up will move on in the finals against the No. 1 seed for the championship.

Dimaano said the lane oil pattern for the one-day tournament is long oil (45 feet) and the entry fee is $50 per player and must be in before Aug. 10.

He said first place nets $700, provided the tournament draws at least 36 participants. The Inaugural Classified Masters Bowling Tournament starts with practice at 9:15am with the roll-off set at 9:30am.
