The Division of Environmental Quality is asking the Rota public to attend a meeting today, Aug. 8, at 11am, in the Office of the Mayor conference room to learn more about historical land use and underground storage tanks on the island, and ultimately close them in an environmentally friendly manner.

DEQ is conducing a site survey on the three islands to identify locations of tanks that may be contaminated or have possible leaks. The department is seeking also to gather information from the public about potential storage tanks and land use storage tanks.

The department is looking for sites of fuel dispensing facilities or former gasoline stations. The sites may have been abandoned or redeveloped years ago. Duenas & Associates, Inc. will conduct the survey.
