CUC chief: No employee preferences

Commonwealth Utilities Corp. employees should not be telling landlords and the general public where and how they should buy backup supplies, such as extra water, to deal with power outages, said CUC executive director Antonio Muña.

Commonwealth Utilities Corp. employees should not be telling landlords and the general public where and how they should buy backup supplies, such as extra water, to deal with power outages, said CUC executive director Antonio Muña.

“In general, maybe that should be clarified,” he said. “We don’t want to have any appearance of impropriety in that regard.”

Muña said any reports of such cases were probably employees acting in good faith.

“I think they’re just trying to be helpful,” he said. “Just advising them [residents or landlords], especially if they are new on island.”

Muña said employees should not be specific, but instead inform the landlord or public on what options are available.

“We are aware of those that do provide and might fill in the gap where CUC may be falling behind on,” he added.
