The Senate on Friday confirmed the appointment of Santiago F. Tudela as commissioner of the Department of Public Safety.

All eight senators congratulated Tudela after receiving the votes of approval.

Sen. Luis Crisostimo, however, asked the new commissioner to initiate a “quick fix” on the rampant burglary cases happening on Saipan.

Crisostimo cited that a month ago three generators from his building in Chalan Kanoa were stolen.

Tudela expressed appreciation to the senators for their confidence in him running DPS again.

“I will just do [the things] that I have to do,” the commissioner told Saipan Tribune after the session.

He said he would not only focus his programs on Saipan, but also on Tinian and Rota as well.

“As commissioner, I am supposed to take care of the entire CNMI police force,” Tudela said.

The commissioner said he and the police force would try their best to address the burglary problem.

Tudela earlier disclosed that his priorities would be opening up the police and fire cycle that will address the manpower shortage problem at DPS.

The Fitial administration terminated Claudio K. Norita as DPS commissioner and tapped Tudela as his replacement.

Tudela served as DPS commissioner during the Babauta administration.
