20 artists join Arts Pacifica Fair
A total of 20 artists in the CNMI have joined this year’s Cultural Heritage and Arts Pacifica Exhibit at the Joeten Motors Co.’s Nissan showcase room, which opened to the public yesterday.
The works of the artists, two each from Tinian and Rota and the rest from Saipan, are on display either for sale or for art’s sake.
Artworks on display include oil painting by Lee Jung Ae, Rino Obar, Benjamin Ganapin, Joe Kani, Jackson Mendiola, Leung Kung, Ireneo David, Dindo Mercene, Eli Espinas, Eric Tubera and Nhorleen Bitco.
Mendiola is also a sand painter while Yamada Poland and Jose Ayuyu are woodcarvers. Others are Emiliana Bugarin (seed necklace earrings), Mark Robertson (acrylic), Robert hunter (acrylic), Jian Dong He (photography), Gregory Elliott (watercolor) and Luis Taitano (seashell carving),
Organizers said that Isaac Anderson, who submitted his artwork on paper, is the youngest participant, being in grade school.
The exhibit will run from Aug. 30 to Sept. 30 and is open from 8am to 6pm on Mondays through Fridays and from 8am to 12pm on Saturdays.
The paintings’ prices range from as high as $950 and $400, to as low as $250 to $5. Other crafts like seed earrings and necklaces cost $3.
Some depict war in the olden days, children’s faces, traditional dances and costumes, images of the underwater world and creatures, and animals.
Other arts are made of bamboo, sea shells, coconut shells and other materials locally available.
