Paire strikers prep for fall youth league
The Paire Football Club’s preparations for the 2008 NMIFA Fall Youth Football League will continue this weekend as it will be holding drills and scrimmages at the San Vicente Elementary School Field tomorrow.
Club secretary Francine Sablan is reminding players to bring shin guards and shoes for the practice. Players who have more than a pair of shin guards and shoes are welcome to donate them for other players.
The scrimmage will run from 3:30pm to 5pm and Sablan is encouraging parents to join their children at the venue.
“We would appreciate any help from coaches and parents during these registration/practice days. If parents are interested in coaching or assisting a coach, this would be a great time to show your interest,” Sablan said.
Before the practice session, the club will meet with coaches at 3pm to discuss the upcoming league.
Paire is one of the four football clubs which will be participating in the fall youth league later this month. The three other clubs are MP United, Matansa, and Independents.
The fall season will kick off on Sept. 27 and will last until Oct. 30. The league will cap its fall season with the 2008 Youth Football Festival in November.
The Northern Mariana Island Football Association patterned the festival after the program under Asian Football Confederation’s Grassroots and Youth Department.
The festival aims to provide players with the opportunity to play and enjoy games in a friendly competition environment, provide a platform for grassroots coach and referee education, and to encourage officials, coaches and players towards good sportsmanship, and a fair play code of behavior.
Last year’s festival was a whole-day affair with more than 100 kids playing one game after another.
Meawhile, Paire is still accepting players interested to join the club’s teams in the Under 6, Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, and Under 15 divisions.
Young strikers from As Teo, Papago, Kagman, Kannat Tabla, San Vicente, and Upper Dandan are encouraged to register with the club.
Registration fee is $25 for new players and $10 for returnees.
