Contract signing for ‘Rites of Passage 5’ starts today

Mixed Martial Arts fighters are expected to start signing contracts today to make the official list of entries to the “Rites of Passage 5”: Raging Warriors slated on Sept. 27.

Trench Tech Inc. president and promoter Cuki Alvarez announced that all fighters need to visit the Trench Tech Gym in Afetnas anytime this week for the signing.

Alvarez said the presence of parents of fighters who are in the 18-and-under age group is needed as they have to sign consent forms.

Official weight in will be on Sept. 26 at the Trench Tech Gym between 5pm and 7pm. Fight rules will also be discussed.

Alvarez said all fighters must show up for the meeting to avoid disqualification.

“Fighters who do not attend the weigh-ins and rules meeting may be subjected to replacement by stand-by fighters,” he said.

A total of 20 bouts, including the main event between Elite’s Derrick ‘Pinchi’ Rangamar against Trench Tech’s Chris “No Luv” Laayug, will be showcased in the Rites of Passage 5.

Laayug and Rangamar are in the 140-lb weight class.

Laayug has a slight edge with his 3-1 win-loss record while Rangamar (2-2) is aiming to pull off an upset.

Twenty-two first time fighters will enter the octagon cage. Some have previous fights but did not win, while only a few have a good record, such as Shane “Pika Boo” Alvarez, who has a 3-0 win-loss mark.

The 130 lbs ‘Pika Boo’ will face a heavier opponent in 133 lbs Sefich Lorenzo, who will have his baptism of fire in the octagon cage.

“Rites of Passage” is an event that caters mainly to first time fighters and/or those who have fought and want to redeem themselves.

It is a “proving ground” for young up and coming fighters looking to earn their “Rites to Pass” onto the next level.
