Guerrero wins SGA Sept Ace
Art Deleon Guerrero won the Saipan Golfers Association September Ace Tournament besting 18 other SGA members last week on the east course of the Laolao Bay Golf Resort.
Deleon Guerrero shot a net 63 for a five-stroke win over runner Martin Sablan, who drilled a net 68. The newly-minted September Ace now qualifies for the SGA Ace of the Aces tournament, joining early monthly winners Mariano Fajardo, Joe Sablan, Ned Norita, Larry Deleon Guerrero, Carl Hocog, Edward Manibusan, Nobert Sablan, and Ron Hodges.
The 23-handicapper Deleon Guerrero fired a 42 and 44 on the front and back nines, respectively, for a gross 86. Sablan, a 26-handicapper, showed consistency on the east course, making a 47 on both nines for a gross 94.
Three golfers had identical net scores of 72 with John Babauta winning the tiebreak for third place with his 41 on the front nine. The eight-handicaper Babauta scored a 39 on the back for a gross 80.
Frank Rosario, who had a 17 handicap, recorded a 43 and 46 on the front and back nines, respectively, for a gross 89.
The 30-handicapper Takai fired similar scores of 51 on the front and back nines and settled for fifth place.
Other participants in the SGA September Ace were Matias Chargualaf (73), Joe Rosario (74), Tony Deleon Guerrero (75), Norbert Sablan (75), Manibusan (76), Jung Teack (76), Manny Alvarez (77), Steve Balakrishna (77), Jose Sablan (78), Fajardo (79), Das Krishnan (80), Larry Deleon Guerrero (81), Rick Kautz (83), and Ray San Nicolas (87).
Manibusan had the most birdies in the tournament with four (holes No. 1, 2, 3, and 8), while Rick Kautz birdied in holes No. 2 and 4. Nine other players had one birdies each.
In the longest drive contests, John Babauta won in the par-four hole No. 7, while Kautz prevailed in the par-hole hole No. 12.
Manibusan and San Nicolas made closest to the pin shots in par-three hole Nos. 4 and 6, respectively. Jose Sablan had two closest to the pin shots on hole Nos. 11 and 15.
