Second of a three-part series

Veteran MMA fighters “Kill” Bill Saures and Syl “The Deal” Teregeyo dominated their opponents in Trench Warz IX: The Annihilation held last Friday night at the Royal Taga Hall of the Saipan World Resort.

Going up against Team Zalaka’s Antonio “Xcalibur” Nekaifes and his 270-lb. frame, Saures used his speed and savvy to win the match in the third round, while Teregeyo needed just a fraction of that to take care of business against Predator Combat’s John “The Jackhammer” Borja.

The Saures-Nekaifes match was true to its “The Big Brawl” billing as the two combatants engaged each other in a stand-up and grappling test of wills in their three-round, no-hold barred matchup.

The first round saw both fighters lock and load their punches at the center of the octagon, while the second saw mostly a ground fight with Saures making full use of his grappling skills and Nekaifes his bulk to try and take the upperhand.

Both fighters were slow to get up from the mat after the second round and the start of the third round had both of them measuring each other up with jabs.

Saures and Nekaifes eventually resumed their battle of attrition on the ground with the former eventually mounting the latter and flaying away with punches while taunting the other to give up and tap out.

With blood oozing from Nekaifes’ nose resulting from Saures’ relentless attack, celebrity referee Frank “The Crank” Camacho stepped in and stopped the fight at the 1:40 mark of the third round.

The win raised the Team Extreme fighter’s record to seven wins against four losses, while Nekaifes fell to 0-2.

Meanwhile, introductions were barely finished when Teregeyo beat Borja via arm bar submission a mere 29 seconds in the first round of their bout.

Trench Tech president Cuki Alvarez later said that Borja suffered a hyperextension injury on his left elbow and a minor separation/dislocation of his shoulder ligament in his rotator cuff.

He said Borja will be out of commission for at least two months but will make a full recovery.

It was Teregeyo’s fourth win against a draw and two losses, while Borja dropped to 2-4.

In the Saipan vs. Guam undercards, home boys Giovanni “Palaxi” Sablan, Fasi “Quickdraw” Jesse, and Maitai Charley defeated imports Brian “The Shotgun” Howard, Joe Cabrera, and Leo “The Assasin” Cing, respectively.

Sablan was impressive in his first round rear-naked choke submission win against Howard that improved the Trench Tech fighter’s record to 15-4. Howard, of Malesso Home Grown, absorbed his sixth loss in 12 fights.

Jesse (3-0) of Trench Tech also proved too much for Cabrera (0-2) as he forced the Team D.A.T. fighter to tap out after applying a rear-naked chokehold 4:50 into the first round.

Charley (2-3) was an 11th hour addition to the fight card but came prepared by pummeling Cing (3-5) with a flurry of punches that forced the referee to stop the fight in the 4:34 mark of the opening round.

The night’s upset special saw Marianas Elite’s Derrick “Pinchi” Rangamar (3-3) defeat Trench Tech’s “Badd” Brad Palacios (5-3) via a Kimura arm lock submission 4:17 in the first round.

In two preliminary matches, Trench Tech’s Shane “Pikaboo” Alvarez (5-0) stopped Team Pwang’s Eddie Paulis (0-1) 4:56 in the second round, while older brother Alverick “Pretty Boy” Alvarez (3-0) beat Team Pwang’s J.J. “The Mauler” Malite (2-5) in the 2:51 mark of the first round.

The result of the historic first CNMI female MMA fight between Tara “Tarantula” Namauleg and Jen “Salbahe” Sambile will be published tomorrow.
