Officials from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges will be in the CNMI in February, March and April to visit and review at least five schools.

Site visits, which last at least one day, for the following schools have been scheduled for:

-Dandan Elementary: Feb. 23, 2009
-Tinian Elementary: March 30, 2009
-Tinian High School and Junior High School: April 1, 2009
-Rota High School: March 24, 2009
-Saipan Southern High School: Feb. 26, 2009

Four other schools—WS Reyes Elementary, San Antonio Elementary, Koblerville Elementary and Kagman High School—have not yet been scheduled but will probably be around the same time, said Steve Smith, WASC coordinator for the Public School System. The schools will most likely find out their accreditation status in the summer.

Smith said PSS is very confident all of the schools will do well.

“Our school leaders are doing what they’re supposed to do. Our staff is doing what they’re supposed to do,” he said.

In October, WASC associate executive director Marilyn George came to the CNMI to conduct a workshop for school leaders as they prepare for accreditation evaluations.
