Docomo Hustlers secure fourth Bud Cup plum
Krystal Docomo Hustlers continued their domination of the Saipan Billiards Association Budweiser Cup after claiming their fourth championship in a row Tuesday night.
The Hustlers were undefeated in the Agingan Division of the Bud Cup for three weeks capping their fourth consecutive title with a 4-2 victory over Godfather’s Rock Steady.
The eventual champions opened their title bid in the Bud Cup with a 4-2 victory over their fiercest rival PTI Voyagers.
In Week 2, the Hustlers showed no mercy over Islanders Rent A Car cruising to a 4-0 shutout win.
The Hustlers picked up where it left off in the third and last week of the competition with a two-point win over Rock Steady.
Two other teams joined the Agingan Division of the Bud Cup with USSP Wat-Ever and Coral Reef Shark Attack included on the list.
The champion team was composed of Robert Sanciangco, James Lee, Senen Pangilinan, Joey Lucido, John Ricafort, Rowell Mariano, Erwin Gomez, and Jerry Soriano.
Topping the Bud Cup allowed the Hustlers to redeem themselves from failing to win the Budweiser Open 8-Ball League.
The Hustlers ruled the 8-Ball league for three straight years, before the PTI Voyagers stopped the former’s run this season.
“We have a hard time defending our title in the 8-Ball league because most of the time we played with a depleted lineup. Our players have work commitments during game time,” said Soriano, who bowed to reclaim the title next year.
“We will make up for the lost chance next season,” he said.
Meanwhile, Primo’s Home Boys took the championship in the Obyan Division after beating Coral Reef Barracuda, 4-0.
The Home Boys won their first match in the Obyan Division, downing the Krystal Perfect Spotters, 4-1. D’Pirates Huwa pulled off a 4-2 decision against USSP Fotten Palau in the other game in Week 1.
In Week 2, the Home Boys defeated D’Pirates Huwa, 4-1, and complete a sweep with a shutout triumph over Coral Reef Barracuda.
The Home Boys also prevailed in the Obyan Division of the 8-Ball league.
Winners in the Bud Cup and the Budweiser Open 8-Ball League will be feted in an awards ceremony on Jan. 4 at Charley’s Cabaret at Pacific Islands Club.
