The annual Travel Industry Cleanup organized by the Japan Saipan Travel Association and the Korean Travel Association of Saipan last Saturday netted a total of 750 lbs of trash and debris collected from the heart of Saipan’s tourist district in downtown Garapan.

An estimated 180 industry volunteers participated in the Dec. 27 cleanup that was conducted from the scenic American Memorial Park down Beach Road to the Carolinian Utt and then back along the beaches to the park.

JSTA and KTAS members were joined by the Hotel Association of the Northern Marianas Islands, Northern Marianas Dive Operators Association, PDM Promoters, Inc., Beautify CNMI, Marianas Visitors Authority, other travel partners and private citizens.

“It is very important that we maintain a beautiful environment for visitors, as we are expecting a lot of tourists for Christmas and New Year’s vacation period,” said the organizers.

“Our community is fortunate to have associations such as JSTA and KTAS that are strong advocates and are very involved in keeping our islands beautiful,” said MVA managing director Perry Tenorio. “We appreciate all the cleanup participants dedicating their time on a weekend to help our community. They remind us all to take pride in our islands—our home— and that we should keep our community beautiful, not only for our visitors but, for future generations as well.”
