The blind following the blind
I was drafting a letter to the editor in response to a recent letter from Lee Anderson when I read the response from Ruth Tighe. I don’t always agree with Ruth, but on this one she hit it right on the head.
For some reason, from the time Gov. Fitial took his oath of office, Mr. Anderson has appointed himself as the great protector of our governor. The governor does not need a mouthpiece; he already has one in the name of a press secretary. I know Mr. Anderson and have never understood his blind following of this administration. Granted the governor inherited many of the problems that previous administrations left for him to clean up. However, I can think of nothing that this governor has done to make life better for the people of CNMI.
Mr. Anderson’s recent letter, however, left me wondering what he is putting in his morning coffee. He can’t really believe what he wrote. But then again, knowing the man I should have expected it. He has always gone on the attack of anyone who says anything against Governor Fitial. Anderson, (as he claims), a former military warrior, knows that you fight the little battles to win the overall war. Nobody who has ever had to go into battle would ever take on the whole war in one fell swoop. This makes me now wonder about his claim to have ever been a combatant. Freshman congresswoman Tina Sablan should be hailed as a combatant and not demeaned for her not taking on the entire war on the Hill at once. She has made us all more aware of the corruptions on Capital Hill and she is trying her best to fight the battles one by one to reach her intended goal of Open Government. She is up against tough odds fighting those who have been happy with doing nothing in office but collect big paydays and doing nothing to make life better in the CNMI. Her present desire to get to the facts about those in charge is prime and through this exposure she will win a huge battle for Open Government. Who knows, what she might able to uncover may just indeed expose some others in government who have been misusing government funds and their office for personal gain, including some of those that Mr. Anderson eluded to.
Good for you Representative Sablan. Keep up the good work. We need more legislators like you. Mr. Anderson, my suggestion to you is that you take your ridicule of those who are actively doing something to make the islands better somewhere else, like maybe back to your homeland of Hawaii. You are among those of the blind following the blind and refuse to take your head out of the beach sand to see the truth about this administration. Demeaning Tina is not helping win the war but is rather an attempt to divert the attention off of a misguided administration and onto anyone else.
