Man’amko to shoot own movie
They maybe too old to start a career in filmmaking, yet if plans push through, the man’amko could become the islands’ next celebrities.
The Office on Aging is on the planning stage for a movie project that would not only showcase the lives of the CNMI’s elderly but they would also be part of the production team and the film’s actors and actresses.
The man behind this project is Office on Aging program coordinator Walter Manglona.
“They may not be doing the lead roles but for sure they would be included in the film as extras or some of the main roles,” said Manglona, who is an aspiring filmmaker.
Manglona said he has been working on this project for quite some time now.
“I’m almost done with the script. I want to make it clear that this would not be a documentary,” said Manglona.
He explained that the script would be fictional, dramatic and fun and would focus the lives of the senior citizens.
“We are doing this to showcase the fun and enjoyment of being with a group,” Manglona said.
The project would be a fundraiser for the man’amko’s planned trip this June to Guam, where 15 to 20 of them will be on the tour.
The shooting for the film is set to start in March.
Before that, Manglona is readying a drama class for the man’amko. Some of them would be given the opportunity to join trainings and workshops.
Manglona said some of the man’amko are not strangers to drama shows because they have already performed in previous years.
