Beach Boys overcome hardworking P&S
Beach Boys overcame a sluggish start to turn back P&S, 8-6, on Wednesday night in the Budweiser Inter-Government/Business Slow-pitch Softball League at the Capital Hill Ballfield.
The upset-conscious Beach Boys rallied from a 1-4 deficit after three and a half innings by scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the score at 4-4.
They then kept their momentum going as four more batters reached home plate in the bottom of the fifth on the way to the Beach Boys’ 11th win in 14 outings.
Darol Atalig scored on a single by Ray Blas, Ota Nobuyuki also reached on a single by Mel Aldan, then Blas and Aldan scored on a two RBI single by Jun Salaula.
P&S got two more runs from Dimas Omar and Ton Reyes Jr. to move to within two, 6-8, in the top of the sixth but that was the best the team could muster as the Beach Boys won in six and a half innings.
With the win, the Beach Boys are now tied with Freedom Air at second place with the two teams carrying identical 11-3 win-loss records.
Oliver Schermidal led Beach Boys’ offense, going 3-for-3 at bat with three RBIs, two runs, and a double.
The loss, meanwhile, resulted in P&S dropping into a three-way tie with CRM/DEQ and POI in eighth to 10th places. The three teams have 6-7 records.
Mayor’s Office 18, Customs 2
Mayor’s Office needed only five full innings to score an upset win against Customs, 18-2.
Despite the loss, Customs has a better record at 4-11, good for 15th place, while Mayor’s Office remained at 19th with a 3-12 mark.
Eight of Mayor’s Office’s 11 batters scored in the top of the first inning, while Customs came up with their two runs in the bottom first.
Joe Tudela, Ernest Kani, and Joe Sablan all went 3-for-3, including three runs each.
Mayor’s Office finished with a total of 17 RBIs on 19 hits, including seven doubles and two triples.
Pitcher John Guerrero allowed only four hits, two runs, an RBI, a walk, and issued a strikeout in the win.
In the other game, Docomo won over CRM/DEQ via forfeit. Docomo is now in solo third at 11-4.
