All-Star Sporting Goods, Athlete’s Foot donate to RBC
The Rollers Basketball Club graciously received a new backboard and rim from sponsors All-Star Sporting Goods and Athlete’s Foot.
“We want to thank Ms. Soledad Tenorio, manager of Boarderline, All-Star Sporting Goods, and Athlete’s Foot for the new goal. We are going to use it at a lower height to help develop our younger players who are not ready to shoot on a 10-foot regulation goal,” said RBC head coach Joe Diaz.
Ideally, Diaz would like to attach the goal to a portable pole that he can transport to and from practices. Diaz has aspirations of opening even younger age divisions (5 to 12 years old) where players can develop their game on eight-foot rims.
“When we hold practices in Garapan, a lot of parents ask me if they can sign up their younger kids. I am totally open to the idea, but it is hard to teach little kids who aren’t quite strong enough to shoot on a 10-foot goal. I feel bad when they participate in the running, dribbling, and passing drills, but can’t really do any shooting—and its obvious that every kid wants to shoot the ball. So If we can get at least two portable and adjustable goals for the smaller kids then they’ll get a lot more out of practice sessions and have a heck of a lot more fun,” added Diaz.
Diaz also said he has a place to store the much needed equipment and has a lot of interested youth players that will benefit from the age-group expansion.
Although, RBC is excited to have its new goal, it still needs to be installed onto a portable pole.
In addition, RBC is seeking help from any interested companies that can assist in obtaining and/or installing at least one more portable goal to hold practices and accommodate full court “mini-games”.
Singing, dance show fundraiser
RBC is also putting on a lip sync singing and dance show fundraiser in conjunction with the Division of Youth Services and Pacific Islands Club to help its U12, U14, U16, and U18 divisions compete in Guam’s 2011 Take Care-Summer Jam Youth Basketball Tournament from June 24 to Aug. 14, 2011.
The singing and dancing show will be held at the Garapan Central Park this Friday, June 10, from 5:30pm to 9:30pm.
Tickets in advance cost $7 and will be sold for $10 at the door.
RBC members in the four divisions will be performing during the show.
Performers include U12’s RBC Little Rascals in Cute Little Brothers dancing Let Me Take You Out by Frankie J featuring Travis Porter; U14’s Mix Blue performing Boyfriend by Big Time Rush; U16’s Local Mix performing Single Lady by Beyonce; U18’s Just Do It! singing and dancing Dirty Beat by The Black Eyed Peas; and local dance group Project Impact, managed by Ester Sablan, who will take the stage for the closing performance.
In-kind prizes and trophies will be awarded to the Top 4 finishers.
