Bearden, Lacorte are SDA School’s top graduates
Hatsuko Bearden and Jirene Lacorte were both named the most outstanding students of Seventh-Day Adventist School during commencement exercises Tuesday night on campus.
SDA School principal Michael R. Berglund promoted this year 11 eighth graders to high school.
Bearden is the daughter of Brian and Clarissa Bearden. She is this school year’s valedictorian and recipient of the Principal’s Award. She was also recognized for her participation in the school’s student council body where she is the vice president.
“I was surprised and I didn’t expect it! I only learned of the honor during the ceremonies and it feels great. I am very happy and proud of what I have achieved,” she told Saipan Tribune.
The 14-year-old dedicated her awards to her 68-year-old grandmother Carmen Tanaka.
Bearden plans to pursue high school at either the Saipan Southern High School or Calvary Christian Academy. She dreams of becoming a surgeon.
This year’s class salutatorian is Lacorte, the daughter of Ernie and Jho Lacorte. The 13-year-old will continue her studies at Calvary Christian Academy next school year.
Lacorte was also named the most valuable player for the school’s volleyball team and was recognized for her participation in the student body organization as the group’s secretary.
Like Bearden, Lacorte said the honor was unexpected. “I feel proud of myself and I am so happy,” she said. Lacorte wants to become a pediatrician someday.
The eight graders who were promoted to high school are Bearden, Lacorte, Je Jung Denise Kim, Jong Woo Kim, Su Hyun Julie Nam, Joey Richard Nigh, Pauline Nimer, Tyler Augustin Palacios, Friendly Joy Pena, Sang Won Park, and Ras Raven Saimon.
