Eye institute’s storage shed thrice burglarized in a year
A storage shed of the Marianas Eye Institute in Garapan was burglarized early this week, reportedly the third such incident in a one-year period.
NMI Crime Stoppers Program coordinator Jason Tarkong said yesterday that the items most recently stolen were a black Kawasaki bush cutter model #TD-20 worth $499, and a black Poulan Lawn mower valued at $300.
Tarkong said a maintenance employee of the Marianas Eye Institute discovered the burglary on Wednesday at 7:45am, at the storage shed located behind the clinic.
The shed’s door was locked at 6:30pm on Tuesday but was found slightly open the following morning.
Tarkong said the point of entry was possibly between the roof and wall of the storage shed. The suspect or suspects, he said, possibly climbed into the storage room and unlocked the door from the inside.
Russ Quinn, the chief executive officer of the Marianas Eye Institute, told Saipan Tribune yesterday that it was actually the third bush cutter and the third lawn mower stolen from the same shed, with this week’s incident being the third time they were burglarized in a one-year period.
Quinn said they called the police each time and that no one has been arrested and no stolen item was ever recovered.
He said they’ve tried different things to increase the security of the storage shed such as putting bars around it, among others.
“Obviously I’m a little bit upset that someone continues to break into our clinic and we have to spend money to replace the equipment,” Quinn said.
The clinic itself has never had any break in, he said, because they have tight security.
