Men’s singles A semis cast complete

The Final Four cast in the men’s singles A division of the 2011 IT&E Singles/Doubles Badminton Tournament was completed over the weekend at the TSL Sports Complex.

Making the list are Dick Guintu, Ferdie Arago, Andrew Galvez, and Mario Diola. Guintu topped the field with an unbeaten 4-0 record and will challenge Diola for the first finals seat tonight. Arago and Galvez will also duel for the other finals ticket tonight.

Besides the four men’s A singles semifinalists, nine other players advanced to the playoff round.

In the men’s B1 singles, Saul Gargallo finished with a 4-0 record to gain the first semis spot in Pool A, while Diola took the second one with his 3-1 card. Gary Bandoja ruled Pool B with his undefeated 4-0 mark and will face Diola in the crossover semis tomorrow. Gargallo will meet either Noli Santos (2-2) or Jerry Balarao in the semis.

In the men’s B2 singles, the semis pairings are Chris Hilario against Vic Reyes and Rodwealth Espana over Ezekiel Macario. Hilario placed first in Pool A with his 4-0 record, while Reyes came in at second in Pool B with his 3-1 mark. Macario reigned supreme in Pool B with a clean 4-0 slate, while Espana ended up with a 3-1 record in Pool A. The men’s B2 singles semis games are also set for tonight.

In the men’s C singles, only two are assured of semis berths. Jerome Malasarte and Mahesh Balakrishnan claimed the first two semis spots after a 1-2 finish in Pool A. Malasarte had a perfect 4-0 record, while Balakrishnan wrapped up the pool play with a 3-1 mark.

Three players are still fighting for the two remaining semis seats in Pool B. Luis Camacho has a 3-1 record, while Dick Koo and Rick Brien have similar 2-1 slates.

In the men’s A doubles, only two semis tickets were collected with the pairs Guintu and Narlou Achas (3-0) and Galvez and Espana taking them after placing in the Top 2 in Pool B. Hapi Gabriel and Macario, Gary Bandoja and Oh Inbog, and Arago and John Revilla are battling for Pool A semis berths.

In the men’s doubles C, making it to the semis were Charlie Borja and Carlo Conwi and Eydie Uy and Brien, while the men’s B doubles have yet to determine its semifinalists.

In the women’s doubles, the C division had its Final Four completed with Wendy Fernandez and Cris Obaldo taking on Kim Boranah and Lee Eun Yee and Alma Ortega and Chie Guevarra squaring off against Elna Curate and Rose Lazaro.
