GUAM—United Continental announced yesterday changes to United and Continental’s checked baggage policy for customers traveling between Micronesia and the mainland U.S., Canada and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The new policy takes effect immediately for tickets purchased beginning July 15, 2011, for travel on or after Aug. 15, 2011.

Customers who purchase certain economy class tickets for travel on or after the effective date will pay a service fee of $70 to check a second bag.

United and Continental continue to offer options for customers traveling with checked bags. The service fee will not apply to elite customers, those seated in first and business class and U.S. military personnel and their families traveling on official orders.

United and Continental’s baggage policy for domestic travel and carry-on baggage remains unchanged. For more details of United and Continental’s baggage policies, visit united.com and continental.com. (United Continental)
