Devastated hospitals receive donated medicine
Ormoc District Hospital and Divine Word Hospital in Tacloban each received 940 lbs of medicines and medical supplies from an IEHK (Interagency Emergency Health Kit) purchased from MAP International (www.map.org) out of Brunswick, Georgia USA.
The Ayuda Foundation, in consultation with the Guam Telephone Authority, used GTA’s $10,000 donation to purchase the IEHK from MAP, which provides enough medicine for 30,000 people for 30 days.
MAP is a non-profit organization that responds to struggling hospitals all over the world and not just in times of disaster. This is the second time MAP has worked with the Ayuda network in a response to a Philippine disaster.
MAP receives donations of medicines and medical supplies from pharmaceuticals and manufacturers enabling them to offer huge amounts of medicines for drastically reduced prices.
In consultation with the Filipino Community of Guam it was decided to split the IEHK between two hospitals. The logistics on the IEHK (from the moment it arrived in Cebu on Nov. 23 from MAP’s operation in the Netherlands) was handled in the Philippines by Natural Logistics and Smart Communications, Inc., partners with Ayuda in every disaster response it made to the Philippines.
In addition to the purchased IEHK, MAP donated 50 travel packs of medicine that combined can treat 17,500 people. The travel packs will be divided among three hospitals. The travel packs will arrive on Nov. 30 and will be distributed as follows.
-Easter Visayas Regional Medical Center – 30 packs
-Tacloban City Medical Center – 10 packs
-Tacloban Doctors Medical Center – 10 packs
MAP also donated another IEHK that can treat 30,000 people for 30 days and it will go to the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center. The second, donated IEHK will arrive on Dec 6. (PR)
