It has been sitting at the heart of Garapan for the past 33 years serving the island of Saipan and welcoming thousands of visitors every year, providing them with quality service, meals from world class chefs, and rooms fit for royalty.

Hyatt Regency Saipan will be celebrating its 33rd anniversary tonight at its renowned Sand Castle Theater with a seven-course meal, entertainment courtesy of Sandcastle, and a raffle (see related story) that will help raise funds for the Mariana Islands Nature Alliance (MINA).

In its fundraising dinner tonight, 33 years of hospitality service will also be celebrated.

“You have the natural calamities, financial crisis, and the fluctuation of tourism but we have been afloat and going very strong,” said Hyatt marketing and communications assistant manager Luis Villagomez.

The Hyatt has definitely been strong and standing as the sole international brand hotel on the island—which is something that Villagomez described as “quite a success.”

From its humble beginnings in 1980 the Hyatt has grown to be one of the prime tourist and local destinations for weddings, business conferences, family gatherings, and vacationing.

“Nothing at the Hyatt has changed that much. We still provide the same authentic hospitality to our associates, owners, and visitors,” Villagomez added. “It is being the preferred brand in all the facets we serve and have that we continue to develop.”

These facets include 317 rooms and suites, Club Elan facilities, Duty free shops, Miyako Japanese Restaurant, Giovanni’s Italian Restaurant, I Sagua Spa, golf, swimming pools, a fitness center, meeting and conference facilities, wedding venues, catering services, and wedding services—all of which distinguishes the “Hyatt” from a “hotel.”

Although not much has changed for the Hyatt, tourism has. Villagomez recognized that the tourism industry, especially in the CNMI, has changed over the past years. The Hyatt now accommodates thousands of visitors from Russia, China, Japan, Korea, and many other places.

“We have a mix of different cultures and nationalities that stay here. This makes us proud to be able to serve different cultures at the same time,” he said.

The Hyatt, however, doesn’t only expose its visitors to their authentic island hospitality and luxuries facilities. They provide transportation and tours around the island to Saipan’s main tourist attractions and activities—such as diving at the Grotto or the Thursday night street market.

Both leisure and business travelers have unequivocally enjoyed a balance of relaxation and activities at the Hyatt for more than three decades now.
